can somebody please give me a couple of compelling reasons why I should use Traktor instead of Rekordbox? I will mostly be playing on CDJ 2000 setup with DJM 900 nexus mixer. I saw recent HID development for Pioneer and Traktor, however I have been using Rekordbox very happily so far. I am not an FX junkie, I use a moderate amount of FX straight from DJM 900. It seems as if the best setup for me would be to use the hardware for all FX, loops etc., and simply use a tablet / laptop / USB stick for track selection using Rekordbox. I’m happy to be convinced that I should go with Traktor after all if someone can give me some compelling reasons…thanks in advance
There is no convincing reason.
It is all about the workflow. If you use traktor, your workflow has to change and many people like traktor because they can expand beyond what CDJs are capable off (e.g. F/X or remix decks) and expand their setup with a NI F1, midi-fighter etc.If you are happy with what you have and do not feel the need for more F/X or remix decks, then by all means keep using what you have.
I went from controller to using CDJs due to needing a multi format platform. I also wanted to be able to use my full selection of music without the need for a laptop. I was a Traktor user so still wanted a music management programme for some of my gigs hence going with the CDJ’s and RekordBox
With your set up and style of mixing you’d probably loose more than you’d gain. However, going to a DVS could open up a new world of mixing for you. If you did want to go to DVS I’d sell up and use the money to get a high spec controller set up and still have some cash for a weekend away.jamesdeejay6, post: 28406, member: 3903 wrote: thanks guys that’s very helpful
How are you finding RB? I’ve nothing but issues and the new release seems even worse. I’m going to do a complete uninstall tonight and try a fresh clean install. I’ll ahve re-analyse my collection which takes about a week but it’s that or nothing.

There have been substantial updates to Native Instruments’ Traktor Pro 3 DJ software in the past few months, and as Pioneer DJ’s Rekordbox DJ software continues to mature and grow in popularity, now seems like the perfect time to put these two DJ platforms head to head to see how they stack up against each other.
I’m new to digital – what exactly are these apps?
Traktor is Native Instruments’ laptop DJ software, and Traktor Pro 3 is the current version. It’s one of the first digital DJ apps, launching back in 2000. It’s gone through several iterations since then, most of which were in step with DJ controllers that Native Instruments put out including the Traktor Kontrol S4, the jogwheel-less Traktor Kontrol S8 and the new Traktor Kontrol S4 Mk3 with Haptic Drive kinetic jogwheels.

Rekordbox is Pioneer DJ’s laptop DJ app. It started life as a music management software for exporting playlists to thumb drives for use with CDJ media players, but has grown to become a full-on digital DJing app thanks to the Rekordbox DJ add-on. Though other DJ apps like Traktor, Virtual DJ and Serato have had a big head start, Rekordbox is quickly catching up in terms of functionality and stability, and is a popular choice thanks to its compatibility with Pioneer DJ’s controllers, media players and all-in-one systems.
