What’s New

/auto-tune-your-voice-online-free.html. - DaisyDisk now scans the local APFS snapshots and displays them inside the “hidden space” area. Now it’s much easier to deal with the hidden space, because the snapshots are often its largest component.
- You can now delete the APFS snapshots (DaisyDisk will generate a script which you paste and run in Terminal).
- Added “Open in Terminal” context menu command.
- Minor improvements and bug fixes.

  • Jun 25, 2018 When Apple added its storage management feature to macOS Sierra, called Optimize Storage, it reorganized what 'other' storage is and where it's located on the Mac. Much of it has been divided out through other categories so it's easier to find and remove. The 100GB of Other storage I used to carry on my iMac is whittled down to just 5GB.

Daisy Disk Clears Purgeable Space

I’ve been using DaisyDisk for a couple of years now and have always been impressed with the slick interface, which makes me just want to open it to take a look. DaisyDIsk also has the ability to drill down into the detail, and then explain those details through very helpful web support. However, now there’s an additional reason to like DaisyDisk. I recently updated to High Sierra and even more recently developed issues with Purgeable Space occupying so much of my main drive that I became worried that I was going to have to either upgrade to a larger disk, or make some major changes to my workflow to accommodate. But, after doing a bit of digging around on the internet I found out that DaisyDIsk can remove Purgeable Space and make it available as free space once more. Just right click on the Purgeable Space displayed by DaisyDisk after doing an Administrator Scan. On my MacBook Pro with a 500GB drive I had 113 GB available prior to sorting out Purgeable Space and around 262GB after. A major improvement.

Spot space hogging files easily

My MacBook was warning me that I was running out of space. I used the built in System Information storage management to clear out quite a lot and thought that was as much as I could do. I then saw DaisyDisk advertised on the app store so gave it a go. I wondered whether it would be a stupid move - adding more software to an already full Mac but it wasn't. I managed to delete an additional 40Gb of stuff (the DaisyDisk app is only 6Mb). I really like the way that it presents it in a visual style - a sort of pie chart of files - so you can see what takes up the most space. I had huge applications installed that I'd used once and then forgotten about and this highlighted them where I hadn't spotted them in Mac storage management. It's very quick and easy to use. I'd definitely recommend it.

Must Have Admin Tool

Coming from a command line background and having done 'du -sch *' too many times, DaisyDisk has become my go to disk space management tool.
The visual representation is very intuitive. At some point I realised that it does the deletion as well (have been using a lot of 'rm -rf..', too), but I still run it with a few Terminal windows and rsync out the files before deleting them.
Seeing many tools being dumbed down into toys or overburdened with 'features', this one thankfully just works, for years now, and remains very useful. Hope the developers keep it that way..!
Some additional key features include NOT rescanning the disk all the time - when I want to go after the space hogs, I don't want to 'map' to change all the time.
If upgraded for free to the stand-alone version on the developer's website, it can also purge the 'purgable space' on the drive, which is particularly useful after installing a system, which is then burdened with a lot of useless Time Machine snapshots of installers and libraries that will never be needed again.

Developer Response,

Thanks for such a detailed and thoughtful feedback! You've nailed it :)
